PILOT LIGHTS

What is a pilot light? A pilot light is a small constantly burning flame inside an appliance used to ignite a main burner. Not all appliances have a pilot light. Some have an electronic ignition.

When a pilot goes out. If a pilot goes out repeatedly or is flickering, that may indicate a problem and should be checked out by a service technician. Do not try to solve a pilot light problem yourself. An accident or serious injury could occur. Have a qualified service technician look at your appliance. We strongly suggest that you have a qualified technician light any pilot that has gone out.

Lighting Pilot lights yourself

Many serious injuries happen when people attempt to light pilots themselves. Proceed with caution and make sure you follow manufactures instructions. Make sure there is no gas in the room. If you are in a closed room or basement, ventilate the room before lighting the pilot. Propane is heavier than air so sniff at floor level.

IF YOU SMELL GAS DO NOT LIGHT THE PILOT!

IF YOU LIGHT A PILOT YOURSELF, THERE IS A RISK OF STARTING A FIRE OR EXPLOSION. MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW MANUFACTURES INSTRUCTIONS AND FOLLOW THESE RULES....

  • DO NOT light a pilot in an area that has a musty smell or where the odor of propane would be hard to detect.
  • DO NOT allow unnecessary people in the area.
  • DO NOT force valves or controls. Use only hand force.
  • DO NOT bleed gas lines in an enclosed area. You may not be able to smell it.
